PoGo Print Reacts To Ink

In Uncategorized on June 23, 2009 at 5:05 pm

Not long ago I said PoGo is No Go, particularly for serious photo journaling people.  I decided to use up all the ZINK photo paper and sell the unit fast.  Then 5 days ago when I received the self-inking stamps for the Travel Photo Cafe 2009, I played with the stamps on the opposite page of 2 PoGo prints I sticked on my notebook.  3 days later, I found that the colors on the PoGo print faded in areas in direct contact with the stamps!

You can clearly see the icons left an "impression" on the PoGo print.  Perhaps the ink is acidic, perhaps something else.  I have another PoGo print reacting to Copic marker drawing as well.  Despite the fact that the PoGo's ZINK paper is waterproof, the surface is susceptible to reaction somehow.  I'm definitely not using PoGo/ZINK for photo journaling.  Yes, I said it again.  This doesn't happen to my Fuji Instax or Pivi prints.

… and I couldn’t stop customizing…

In Uncategorized on December 8, 2008 at 6:07 pm

I don't have the tools to emboss my mind.Depositor leather cover, the alternative is to use craft ink with a stamp I got from Convent Garden last year.  Yeah I just couldn't stop customizing my "productivity" tool 🙂  Perhaps I should do the Scription logo on the back of the leather cover…. hmmm…..

String/Ribbon/Cloth/Bead/Button Streets

In Uncategorized on May 5, 2008 at 7:00 pm

I had an a great day-off today.  Went to look for some strings for a friend and market researched several stationery, art/craft stores.  Strolling in Sham Sui Po area where there are hundreds of outlets selling all sorts of fabric/fashion related materials, I rediscovered the area which once were part of Hong Kong's textile industry success, feeding 625,000 residents directly or indirectly in 1960s.  There is no place in the world having such high concentration and variety of textile materials.  If you are not familiar with Hong Kong, we even have streets full of retailers dedicated to selling birds, flower and fish.

I could've spent hours but the weather was so hot I had sweat all over.  So I just bought several yards of interesting strings, some coated with PolySomething (wax they said), some leather and some Polyurethane based.  I couldn't even concentrate to take better photos due to the heat.
Price sold in small quantity varies from HK$1/yard to HK$5/yard for those I selected.  Many stores allow you to cut a maximum 2 inches piece per style for sampling.

Later I went to Tak Cheung Stationery in Sham Sui Po, Chung Nam Book & Stationery in Mong Kok, Hands ARt & Craft in Wan Chai and lastly Paper Art in Central.  Believe me, in such a tiny little place, Hong Kong is truly a shopping heaven.  I turned out bought over HK$1000 Hero Arts stamps from Paper Art and became their permanent member 🙂

Woodenize My Date Stamp

In Uncategorized on February 17, 2008 at 2:28 pm

I had some fun last night to woodenize my date stamp.  Sawed from the wooden beams I dissembled from a cabinet, a wooden cube now replaced the plastic handle from my Cox date stamp, matching the stuffs made of wood on my desk.

I'm still unsatisfied with the new wooden handle, will probably find some way to customize it further.  If you ask me what color I like most, I will tell you "wood".  Not brown, not dark brown, not burnt umber, just WOOD.
What else I have in wood on my desktop?  A calculator with wooden rim, Tivoli Audio radio, antique wooden treasure box to store my travel tools/books, stamps, spools, cutter in wooden box, wine bottle holder, wooden photo frame and mirror, etc.  If my dream house can't be in wood, at least my study room will definitely be.
Tonight I'm gonna play with some ideas about a notebook system which has all my favorite elements in note taking and journaling with photos.  The polaroid here was taken today with my wife standing in front of a wall holding my Lomo LCA+ with wide angle lens, I should ask her to pose more for stuffs I love, including herself 🙂

Objects, Places and Xmas

In Uncategorized on December 11, 2007 at 6:32 pm

The word "geek" or "otaku" doesn't seem enough to describe who I am.  Yes I'm obsessed with objects, in particular stationery and photography related objects/images, but there are more beyond logos and I strive to escape from Plato's cave knowing how limited I am as a human being, so what you see here is only the shadow of my self, which is beyond description.  Anyway, corporeal objects are shadows of another existence, they (things I adhere to) often amuse me because they reflect the higher/true self behind in tiny little ways.  I enjoy reflections from objects.

Here's my recent adventures:

  • a book given to me as a gift from a Japanese colleague – Love & Free by Ayumu Takahashi
  • from 9 o'clock: Futurama tin toy figure acquired in September NY Gift Show
  • a light bulb burned out for over 6 months in Times Square store and nobody aware of it.  Its a souvenir I need to remind myself to talk to them about operations issues.  I used a marker to write on the glass surface the story
  • GTD Action Magnet: My own design, a set of 5 strong magnets designed to be used as reminders of the GTD practise.  It will be on production in January and arrive our store exclusively.  I shall post more about this once it gets more solid
  • White Xmas wreath decorated with white LED light on the surface, blue LED on the background: a proud combination I did for this year's Xmas, it is now hanging on my front door
  • Reindeer and slate: I love the white/red combination, so when I saw this display in Festival Walk mall, I took this moody picture right away
  • Crabtree & Evelyn Xmas shopping bag: I love the drawing a lot!  Someday I will paint something similar but with my own twist
  • Coffee at 9pm: after dinner, exhausted but motivated, a boost of energy for the rest of the night's work
  • Antique Dymo and stamps: they are sort of same in certain sense – labeling.  All acquired as my antique stationery collection
